Big Bass Bonanza’s 13% hit frequency: how long dry spells last, and what the fisherman feature really pays

Short answer — Big Bass Bonanza, Pragmatic Play’s 5-reel, 3-row, 10-line fishing slot released on 14 December 2020, lists an official hit frequency of 13%. That is roughly one winning spin in every 7.7, about half as often as many other Pragmatic line slots. By our calculation, a run of 10 spins with no win at all happens about 25% of the time and a run of 20 about 6% of the time, purely by chance. The game’s published RTP is 96.71% and its maximum win is capped at 2,100x the total bet. Most of the game’s value is pushed into the free spins, where wild fishermen collect money symbols and every fourth wild collected adds 10 spins with a 2x, 3x and finally 10x multiplier.

This guide reads those official numbers in pesos so that a long losing streak is understood as normal for this design rather than as a sign that something is wrong. Every figure is linked to its source next to the claim; figures we worked out ourselves are marked “our calculation”. Sources were checked on 15 October 2026.

Where the numbers come from

We used three kinds of source. First, Pragmatic Play’s official Big Bass Bonanza game page, which describes the money symbols (up to 2,000x), the 10/15/20 free spins for 3/4/5 scatters, the wild collect and the 2x/3x/10x retrigger ladder, and states RTP 96.71%. Second, the game card on pragmaticplay.fun, a site operated on behalf of Pragmatic Play, which lists the release date, the 13% hit frequency, bet range 0.10–250 and the 2,100x maximum. Third, the configuration that Pragmatic Play’s own demo server returns when the game opens (game code vs10bbbonanza): RTP 96.71, 10 lines, coin values, the paytable, the scatter table and a maximum-win field of 2,100 with a hit rate of 1 in 3,880,481.

The demo server’s max_rnd_hr field is read here as “maximum win hit frequency, 1 in N”. We confirmed that reading against a Pragmatic title where both are published: the official Sweet Bonanza 1000 Game Overview gives “Max win hit frequency 1 in 71,428,571”, and that game’s demo field carries exactly 71428571.

One label needs care: pragmaticplay.fun rates the game “Low” on volatility. A 13% hit frequency with most value in a bonus round is the opposite of what many players mean by “low volatility”, so we do not rely on that label in this guide. The hit frequency and the paytable describe the experience more precisely than a one-word rating.

What a 13% hit frequency means at the table

A hit frequency of 13% means that, over a very long run, 13 out of every 100 spins return something. It does not mean that one spin in every eight is guaranteed to pay. Because each spin is independent, the chance of a streak of N spins in a row with no win is (1 − 0.13)N (our calculation). To show why this game feels different, we put it next to another Pragmatic 5×3 line slot, The Dog House, whose official hit frequency is 27.55%.

Bar chart comparing the chance of 5, 10, 20, 30 and 50 losing spins in a row for Big Bass Bonanza at 13% hit frequency and The Dog House at 27.55%
Our calculation from the official hit frequencies. A probability, not a forecast for any session.
Spins in a row with no win Big Bass Bonanza (13%) The Dog House (27.55%)
5 49.8% 20.0%
10 24.8% 4.0%
20 6.2% 0.16%
30 1.5% 0.01%
50 0.09% <0.01%

Read the 20-spin row carefully. On The Dog House, twenty empty spins in a row is a rare event, about 1 in 600. On Big Bass Bonanza it is about 1 in 16. Over a session of 500 spins there are hundreds of overlapping 20-spin windows, so a player should expect to meet a stretch like that at some point. Increasing the bet to “make up” for a dry run does not change the hit frequency of the next spin; it only increases what that next empty spin costs.

The paytable, converted to multiples of your total bet

The demo server reports line wins as multiples of the line bet. With 10 lines, dividing by 10 gives multiples of the total bet (our conversion). The server does not name the symbols, so they are shown here as value tiers rather than with guessed names.

Tier 5 of a kind 4 of a kind 3 of a kind 2 of a kind
Top symbol 200x 20x 5x 0.5x
Tier 2 100x 15x 3x —
Tiers 3–4 50x 10x 2x —
Tier 5 20x 5x 1x —
Five low symbols 10x 2.5x 0.5x —

A “win” that returns half the stake

The most common line win in a game like this is three of a kind on a low symbol. On one line it pays 0.5x the total bet. At a hypothetical ₱10 spin that is ₱5 back, so the spin still loses ₱5 even though the screen celebrates a win. A three-of-a-kind on a tier-5 symbol only returns the stake. Two or more lines can win on the same spin, so real spins can pay more than one row of this table, but the base game is built mostly from small amounts. That is why a hit frequency of 13% and an RTP of 96.71% can both be true: much of the return has to come from the free spins.

How the free spins collect value

According to the official game page, landing 3, 4 or 5 scatters awards 10, 15 or 20 free spins. During the feature, fish symbols carry money values of up to 2,000x and a wild fisherman collects every money value visible on the screen. Wilds are counted: every fourth wild collected retriggers the feature with 10 more spins, with the first retrigger applying a 2x multiplier to collected values, the second 3x and the third 10x.

Wilds collected What happens Multiplier on collections
0–3 Starting free spins 1x
4 +10 free spins 2x
8 +10 free spins 3x
12 +10 free spins 10x

Two limits are worth knowing before chasing the 10x level. First, the whole game is capped at 2,100x the bet; a single 2,000x fish multiplied by 10 would far exceed that, so the cap, not the ladder, decides the largest possible payment. Second, Pragmatic Play does not publish how often the feature triggers for this title or how often each level of the ladder is reached, so neither figure is given here. Any site quoting an exact free-spins frequency for Big Bass Bonanza should be asked where it came from.

Worked peso examples

The examples below assume a hypothetical ₱10 spin. Actual peso bet limits depend on the platform and were not verified. The theoretical average loss is the amount staked × (1 − RTP), which is a long-run average, not a prediction (our calculation).

Scenario Amount staked Theoretical average loss at 96.71%
100 spins × ₱10 ₱1,000 ₱32.90
500 spins × ₱10 ₱5,000 ₱164.50
2,000 spins × ₱10 ₱20,000 ₱658

The average hides how uneven the path is. With a ₱1,000 budget at ₱10 a spin, a 20-spin dry streak removes ₱200, a fifth of the budget, before anything comes back. The maximum win at ₱10 is ₱21,000 (2,100 × ₱10). At a frequency of 1 in 3,880,481 spins it is not a realistic target: someone playing 600 spins an hour, one hour a day, would make about 219,000 spins in a year, and the chance of seeing the maximum at least once in that many spins is about 5.5% (our calculation, 1 − (1 − 1/3,880,481)219,000).

Our official-demo sample: 1,000 paid spins

To add something you cannot get from the official page alone, okbet ran Big Bass Bonanza on Pragmatic Play’s official demo server on 15 October 2026 at a total bet of 2.00 demo credits, counting only spins that deducted a stake, and measured every result from the server’s own balance. This is one demo session with play money. It shows how the numbers above can look in a short run; it does not measure RTP and says nothing about real-money results.

Measure Demo sample Compare with
Paid spins / total staked 1,000 / 2,000.00 —
Spins with any win 142 (14.2%) official hit frequency 13%
Wins smaller than the stake 40 (28.2% of wins) —
Wins exactly equal to the stake 26 —
Longest run with no win 36 spins chance that a given 36-spin stretch is empty: 0.7%
Dry runs of 10+ / 20+ spins 30 / 5 —
Free-spins features 9, paying 22x to 87.5x the bet no official trigger rate published
Largest single result 87.5x (free spins) maximum 2,100x
Total returned 1,624.00 (81.2%) RTP 96.71%

The sample behaved much as the official numbers suggest. The hit rate of 14.2% sat close to the published 13%, and 858 of the 1,000 spins paid nothing. The longest stretch without any win was 36 spins, and there were 30 separate dry runs of ten spins or more. Nine free-spins features appeared, every one between 22x and 87.5x the bet, and together they supplied more than a third of everything the session returned: without them, the base game returned 44.8% of the stake. That split is the practical meaning of a low hit frequency. The base game mostly holds the session together, and the result depends heavily on when, and how well, the fisherman feature lands. The 81.2% total is one short session and is not an estimate of the game’s RTP; another session could finish far above or far below it.

Verified, calculated and unverified

Verified from Pragmatic Play sources: release date, 5×3 layout with 10 lines, RTP 96.71%, hit frequency 13%, maximum win 2,100x and its frequency, bet range, scatter awards, the wild-collect rule, money values up to 2,000x and the 2x/3x/10x retrigger ladder, and the paytable values.

Our calculation: dry-streak probabilities, the paytable in total-bet multiples, peso examples, the chance of the maximum win over a year of play, and the comparison with The Dog House.

Demo sample (one session): hit rate, size of wins, free-spins result and return over 1,000 spins.

Not verified: free-spins trigger frequency, how often each retrigger level is reached, the distribution of fish money values, symbol names for each paytable tier, the volatility label, and the RTP version and peso limits on any particular real-money platform. Pragmatic Play games can be supplied in more than one RTP setting, so check the RTP shown in the game’s own information screen before playing.

Before you play

Every spin is random and none of the probabilities above predicts the next one. Set a budget and a stopping point first, treat a 20-spin dry run as an expected part of this game rather than a signal to raise the stake, and never chase the 10x level with money you cannot afford to lose.
